Cleaning Your Spa Filter Instead of Replacing It

Many people have made the decision to add a hot tub or spa to their deck, gazebo, or other part of their home. It's something that everyone in the family could have fun with. That is until it's time to change the filter. With a lot of tub use, filters can need repeated changes, and they aren't cheap. Fortunately, there's a better way. You could choose to clean your spa filter instead of replacing it. Not only will it help save you money, but you'll also be keeping extra waste out of the landfill.

Start by turning off the power to the hot tub. It's important not to work on anything that involves water and electricity. You should retrieve the filter from under the skimmer. Removing the filter is one of the easiest things about it. You may have to consult the instruction manual if you are unable to remove the filter easily.

Larger pieces of debris can be removed from the filter using a soft scrub brush. The amount of debris that you find can be very surprising. A lot of the debris will be hair, so you'll need to work hard to remove it all. It's also important that you pay close attention to the seams of the filter. Be thorough, but don't scrub too hard or you'll damage the filter.

If you have a pressure washer, you can use the lowest setting to wash the filter. A garden hose with a pressure nozzle attached to it is also an option. Keep spraying until the water runs clear to ensure that you're removed all the built up dirt and debris. While you're washing the filter, you can use a broom stick placed through the center of the filter to keep it in place.
To ensure that it's thoroughly clean, it's best that you soak the filter in hot water and chlorine bleach. Not only will it help sanitize the filter, but it will also restore its white color.

It's important that you rinse all of the bleach out of the filter after you're done. This is especially true if you use an alternative spa treatment such as Baquacil. After all, you don't want a weird chemical reaction taking place in your tub. Your filter will likely be almost as good as new after all of these steps. It's best that you let the filter air dry before you put it back in the spa. Doc No.wslsdhgt-sdgewa
